Lucky Number Seven

Have you heard of the blog The Odessa May Society?  If not, you better get your skates on quick smart and scoot over there for a peek... I met Jennie Prince, the talented author of this lovely site, through the recent Blogging Your Way e-course.  I was really touched that Jennie nominated Wicker & Stitch for a Stylish Blogger award (woohoo!).  I always get such a kick out of these things - the blogging world is so full of love and friendship and encouragement.

The deal with this award is that the recipient has to reveal 7 things about themselves that readers wouldn't already know before passing the award onto others... now, I've done this a few times before so, as a bit of a twist on the theme, I thought it would be fun to share some personal things that have happened to me today that have made me smile:

1. Our little Monkey, who will be seven months old in a few days time, woke up this morning and called for "Dadada" and "Mamama" from his cot... Andre and I lay in bed, holding hands and smiling into the darkness at the wonder of being somebody's parents (never mind that it was 5.30am!).

2. I received a package of beautiful fabrics in the post and then sat with them on my lap, stoking them like they were a cat... yes, really!

3. A friend leant me a little book called All My Friends Are Dead... you have to read it, its hysterical!

4. The Monkey got the giggles while eating his morning tea and couldn't stop... I wish I could bottle his unbridled joy and give a dose to all the sad people in the world!

5. I went for a walk in the sunshine and felt the warmth seep into my soul and fill up my heart.

6. I received a beautiful email from my gorgeous friend Jane, full of wisdom, love and encouragement... her blog, Life on Planet Baby is a lovely place to visit.

7. I rang my Mum to tell her about the cot calling... her delight at my delight made me feel light as a feather.

And in case you've ever wondered where I sit when I blog... here is a sneek peek at my messy desk (which sits in our dining room in our tiny little apartment!).

Lucky Me!

About half way through last year, I stumbled upon a gorgeous blog called A Beautiful Space, the online home of a very talented decorator by the name of Sally-Ann. This morning I was very touched to discover that Sally-Ann had nominated me for a blogging award!

As a recipient, I must reveal 7 things about myself. Seeing as though you can tell the obvious by reading my posts (that I'm a lover of vintage stuff, jars, cameras, pretty fabric, the colour pink, pegs, silver cutlery, cotton reels, buttons...), I thought I should tell you things that you might not already know:

1. My first pet was a lamb called Flopsy... I grew up on a sheep and cattle property in north-west New South Wales (Australia) so we were forever taking in orphans. Not many of them survived but we did our best, keeping them by the wood fire in the kitchen wrapped in old blankets. One of my earliest memories is of standing at the back gate, giving Flopsy her bottle.

2. Last September I became a mama to the most beautiful little boy God ever put breath into! He is just a bundle of fun and yumminess... I didn't think I could have children, so his arrival was particularly sweet.

3. I meditate every day. I have discovered incredible inner peace, calmness, freedom and self-belief by spending fifteen minutes every morning in a state of conscious spiritual awareness. If I could have one wish, it would be that the whole world could learn to meditate... I'm convinced it's the one true path to happiness.

4. I married my true love and together we have made a home that is founded on the phenomenal connection of our souls... each day I have to pinch myself... I literally can't believe I found him.

5. I'm a cat lover but sadly don't own a cat. Andre and I dream of owning a British Blue called Daphne but will have to wait until we can afford a little house of our own before we can introduce a cat into the equation.

6. When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a ballet dancer so I could wear a pink tutu ALL the time. Sadly, I had all the grace of a baby elephant so I never even made it to classes... you'll be pleased to know that didn't stop me from wandering around our farm dressed in a leotard and ballet slippers for much of 1981!

7. I'm mildly obsessed with washing... the buzz I get from seeing a full line of clothes flapping about in the sunshine is like having a double shot of schnapps followed by a tequila slammer. To see a line of pretty aprons would be almost too much for me to handle!

Sweet Surprise

I woke up this morning feeling a bit glum... it was raining (again), I was tired and all I wanted to do was spend the day lying in a park under the non-existent winter sun.... but then I opened up my blog and found that I'd won an award!!!!! My first EVER!

Laura May over at Home Sweet Home nominated me, which is by far the loveliest thing that has happened in ages - so thank you gorgeous LM, not only for the award, but for always posting such endearing little comments on my blog!
