Interior Inspiration

This image captures the very reason I adore interior decorating...

Look at the way light and fabric has been used to create a magical fairyland of wonder.  At the heart of all design, should be the desire to turn our world into a more beautiful place.  The splendour of sleeping in such a divine space would fill up your soul and leave you feeling like one of God's own angels.

Always, always strive for beauty in everything you do.

Happy weekend everyone

Chandelier Idea

Beside Lamps

What a gorgeous, alternative way to incorporate chandeliers into a bedroom scheme... the trick is to choose small, delicate pieces that can be hung low. I adore the look achieved in this image - so Parisian and so effortlessly chic!

Lighting Trends

I am loving the recent trend towards using large, drum pendant lighting in residential interiors.  The idea takes its cue from what has been seen on the commercial stage, and I think the look transfers well provided it's not overdone.  I have selected a black pendant drum (similar to the one in the first image) to go above the island bench in a kitchen for a client in Northbridge.  The cabinetry is a Mombassa Wenge veneer with a white stone bench top and flows into a lounge with charcoal feature walls and a travertine floor...... the project is still at build stage but I'm busting to see what it's going to look like!  Will keep you posted :)

Pining for Paper Lanterns

I nearly bought some gorgeous paper lanterns from a $2 shop on the weekend but I foolishly passed them by.... now all I can think about is how pretty they would look in my apartment!  When will I learn my lesson???  Here are some lovely images to demonstrate to myself the full extent of my shortsightedness!

Let There Be Light

I am always astounded by the impact of a perfectly suited pendant light... it can be the final touch that makes or breaks an interior scheme.  Too bold and it is in danger of overwhelming the more subtle aspects of a room.  Too timid and it will hang listlessly from the ceiling, giving off an air of forgotten dejection.  Get it right however, and it will transform a beautiful interior into a breathtaking one.  Here are some great examples of walking on the slippery cliff edge of audacious design:

The size of these lights complement the artwork above the fireplace while their irregular shape is in direct contrast to the structured, modern shape of the dining chairs and the traditional cupboard doors beyond.

I love how the composition of this light reflects the shape of the insect in the picture.

Round pendant lights are the perfect antidote to the boxy nature of the furniture in this image.

A cluster of pendants hung at different levels gives a focal point for this room that would otherwise appear very cavernous and excessively vast.
