Decorating Master Class: Studded Ottoman

I am totally in love with these stunning Moroccan-inspired silver studded ottomans.  The colour, the detailing, the shape, the size... sheer perfection!  If I were to spec these for a job I would give the following instructions to my upholsterer:

Round Stool Ottomans

Size: (400mm D x 550mm H)

Style: Solid topped ottoman to the floor (no visible feet)

Detailing: 2 x double rows of silver upholstery studs around the top and bottom (studs to be 10mm apart)

3 x vertical single rows of silver upholstery studs spaced at 1/3 intervals (studs to be 10mm apart) - be sure to cover seam with studs

The ottomans would look beautiful in a range of fabrics but I would choose a fine-grain leather in white or grey to achieve a similar look to the image.

New Year Naturals

Happy New Year my lovelies!

To kick things off, I thought I would share a few little finds with you.  I have recently been introduced to the wonders of South African interior design by a lovely, gentle architect called Andre Steyn who has miraculously found his way into my world...  I have totally fallen in love with the raw sophistication that is embodied in so much of their design - the combination of muted colour palettes and edgy creativity really appeal to my own sense of style.  Check out these great furniture pieces from The Modern Garden Company.

Chair Obsession

I remember coming across this image of a vintage leather Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair in a magazine ages ago... for years it haunted me because I didn't tear it out and then I could never find it again (you know that frustration of discovering something perfect but then not being able to locate it).  But yesterday, while looking for something entirely unrelated, there it was!  I couldn't believe it!  So in celebration of Friday and all that is wonderful about the happiest working day of the week, here is THE chair to drool over.... 

I Wish for a Wishbone Chair

I have admired the Hans Wegner Wishbone Chair from afar for many a long year but until yesterday I had never sat in one.  I had often run my hand along the elegant curve of it's back in showrooms all over Sydney but had never pulled one out and sat down.  I have to tell you that the experience was one of sublime comfort and awe.... when considering the longevity of this 1950s design classic, it's probably no wonder that it has so much more going for it than plain good looks.  I was so taken with it that I've decided to use the Wishbone chair around the client meeting table in my new office (will post pics when completed).  Nothing like a bit of mid-century Danish style to put you in the mood for creating!

I take my hat off to the ingenuity of turning a cheap white cupboard into a beautiful french armoire with this clever stencil (I assume it's a stencil.... if it's hand drawn, I'm even more impressed!).  Simple yet effective - brilliant!

Today I Love.... The Ditzel Hanging Chair

It might be an oldie but a goodie, but the rattan Hanging Chair designed by Nanna & Joergen Ditzel in 1957 remains one of my favourite pieces of hand crafted furniture.  I particularly love it in a natural setting like in the image above, where it's organic form allows it to merge so seamlessly and beautifully with the surrounding elements.
