As a natural progression from my previous post, my mind started wandering to what I like to call the 'American Shoreside Look' (it's like the love child of the Lake House and the Beach House...). Old, natural timber pieces combined with fishing rods, oars, vintage maps and splashes of aquamarine blue are positively essential if these lovely images are anything to go by. There is an air of genteel poverty that clearly (if not a little ironically) speaks of wealth beyond my wildest dreams... that chest of drawers above would be crammed with cashmere sweaters worth more than my car, you mark my words!

Get The Look: American Lakehouse

I do love a good deer bust... and I'm a little taken with wooden boats, timber cladding and the odd boy scout pendant on the wall. The American Lakehouse look is my current fascination (the New Zealanders do it equally as well mind you).
The key ingredients for me are the following:
1. A gorgeous house on a lake (obviously!)
2. Deer busts (note the plural) with impressive antlers and an aloof expression
3. Midnight turquoise painted detailing (I adore this colour!)
4. Internal cladding painted white
5. Rustic wooden floorboards worn smooth from thick-wooly-sock-wearing feet
6. Exposed beams
7. Two cups of piping hot cocoa sitting on the kitchen bench
Close your eyes, conjure the image and take yourself there x

Friday Girly Glamour
Andre thinks I'm a ridiculously girly girl - what can I say... I was born with a Barbie doll in one hand and bunch of pink hair ribbons in the other! I adore all things pretty, like these gorgeous interiors. The above image with its combination of bold wallpaper teamed with such a stunning bedhead and plush bedlinen, completely does it for me. The little ottoman is just YUM!Have a lovely girly Friday everyone x

Pastel Party Princess
Last weekend Andre and I felt very honoured to be included in the christening and birthday celebrations of the divine children of my friend Emma (of By Emma Designs fame). Em is so incredibly talented and creative - just have a look at the 'Candy Corner' she whipped up. Honestly, it was one of the prettiest and most delectable things I have ever laid eyes on! Andre has dubbed her Queen of Pastel City as a result! Hopefully you can take some ideas from Em's beautiful displays.

Authentic Vintage
I was having a discussion with Andre last night about the current trend towards fake vintage and how it undermines the very nature of the style (not to mention being a total oxymoron). The beauty of the look is derived from it's very authenticy. I found these great images of the old MC Motors factory in the UK... this kind of vintage fun is impossible to recreate. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!Have a great weekend everyone x

Please Can I Live Here....
I can't decide which part of this beautiful home I adore more... the gorgeous verandah, the black and white tiled entry, the window seats or the stunning pendant light in the kitchen. The detailing is superb - I've a fetish for internal vertical tongue and groove paneling at the moment - the bay window nook is too gorgeous for words! The only thing missing in this house is ME!Have a happy, happy day x

My Frankie Feature

Quite incredibly, this month's issue of Frankie Magazine features an article I wrote about the death of my brother Justin when I was six years old... I have never had something personal published before and while it's wonderful to see my little article come to life in the pages of one of my favourite mags, I also feel strangely exposed and vulnerable. After all, when we write from the heart about matters concerning our own experiences, there is nowhere to hide from ourselves...
But the experience was quite a cathartic one too... the ghosts have been finally laid to rest and only the beautiful spirit of my brother remains.
