Tuesday Style School

As a stylist, I'm always paying attention to beautifully arranged photos and what it is about them that works... I can spend hours looking through a magazine, pulling apart the bones of someone else's carefully constructed imagery. Today I've collected and commented on some lovely pics from Hannahs Form and Lilla Blanka. Which is your favourite?

1. Ballerina Love

The combination of the old, white painted chair, the roughly folded bedlinen and the pink ballet slippers is perfect... the graduating effect of the layering works back beautifully with the shape of the chair.

2. Sign Post

Black and white typography is always a winner and this grouping of vintage signs is no exception, particularly when teamed with an old rustic lamp. The floral patterned quilt in the foreground balances the austerity of the arrangement perfectly.

3. Heavenly Father

I don't know what it is about religious icons, but they always appeal to me. The beauty of this image comes from the scattered grouping of matchboxes and the unlikely subject matter.

4. Wrapped Up

What I love most about this image is it's originality... it takes some relatively run-of-the-mill components and turns them into a thing of beauty. It is striking and quirky and memorable.

True Meaning

ECLECTIC:- adjective taking ideas from a wide range of sources

I'm guilty of bandying the term 'eclectic' around willy nilly, using it to describe any interior style that doesn't quite fit into a certain category... perhaps we need a little reminder of what true eclecticism really looks like...

Pretty crazy right? BUT very, very cool!

It's the Weekend!

Because.....

1. It marks the beginning of 2 beautiful, uninterrupted days with my husband
2. It holds all the anticipation of Saturday untouched
3. It is relief and red wine and feet up
4. It means tomorrow is a sleep-in
5. It equals happiness

HAVE A HAPPY, HAPPY WEEKEND

Bath Lovers

I love my bath... but I haven't been in it for a while now. The sad truth is that our pathetic little water tank isn't large enough to fill the tub with hot water and in winter the idea of a luke warm soak doesn't exactly fill me with joy. So I'm forced to look at it with longing and pine for the balmy summer's evenings when I can lie there with the windows thrown wide open and scented candles lit all around.

While I've always fancied the idea of a gorgeous, deep claw foot bath, the white painted timber clad one above is today's favourite x

Baby's New Clothes

In preparation for the arrival of our little one in a few weeks time I have been washing all it's tiny, sweet clothes... I apologise for being all mushy but just look at how adorable they are! I keep staring at the clothesline in wonder that there will soon be a little person with us to wear them x

Quirky Decorating Ideas

I love it when I stumble upon great decorating ideas that are a little bit quirky and a little bit unexpected. Check out these images for some Wednesday inspiration...

The perfect kid's cubby bedroom... it makes great use of the available space while providing a haven of fun and secrecy for the little ones.

Numbered stairs... now why didn't I ever think of doing that?

A bold striped floor rug adds a contemporary twist to this classic dining room.

Colour Therapy

Suddenly, the bleak winter greyness is being gently pushed aside by the first hint of spring... the sky is blue, the magnolia buds are blossoming and the air is filled with the energy of new life (THANK GOD!!!!). I was steadily going insane with all the wet, gloomy days we've been having. To celebrate the changing seasons, I have put together some images of gorgeous, colourful bedrooms that represent all there is to love about warm, sunny days.

Have a beautiful Monday x

Bathing Beauty

As an antidote to yesterday's minimalist post, I was in need of some serious Nordic prettiness to tip the balance back in favour of things more my style. Look at this beautiful bathroom I discovered over at Vintage & Morrhar - I have a vision of myself lying in that bath with soft music playing and candles lit all around... what bliss, what decadence!

Room for a cushion laden bench... can you imagine? I can barely dry myself in our bathroom without injuring a limb!

Love everything... love the vanity cabinetry, love the benchtop, love the taps, love the mirror

To some, a chandelier above a bath may seem a bit OTT... to me it is the ultimate in frivolous, feminine indulgence

Minimal Touch

I just came across these beautiful images of a spectacularly minimalist interior designed by Kasper Ronn and Jonas Bjerre-Poulse, the Danish architects behind studio NORM. I admire this kind of design for so many reasons but mostly because I just don't think I could exercise the kind of restraint required to create such pure, clean lines. It's extreme masculinity generates a sense of calmness that I wouldn't have expected. Personally, I'd struggle to exist in this type of interior but that doesn't stop me from appreciating it... in short, I love it from afar.
