Lighting Trends

I am loving the recent trend towards using large, drum pendant lighting in residential interiors.  The idea takes its cue from what has been seen on the commercial stage, and I think the look transfers well provided it's not overdone.  I have selected a black pendant drum (similar to the one in the first image) to go above the island bench in a kitchen for a client in Northbridge.  The cabinetry is a Mombassa Wenge veneer with a white stone bench top and flows into a lounge with charcoal feature walls and a travertine floor...... the project is still at build stage but I'm busting to see what it's going to look like!  Will keep you posted :)

Wallpapers To Die For

I have just been working on a proposal for a client and have put together the following images of possible wallpapers... the only problem is, I love them all!  How on earth will I choose?  Let's hope she wants to paper lots of walls!

Stairway to Heaven

Two posts in one day... unheard of!  I just came across this amazing stairwell and had to share it - doesn't it look exactly like a seashell?

Favourite Photos

I took these photos months and months ago but I still love them ...  the particular Protea in these images (which is the same one featured in my profile pic) will go down in history as one of the most beautiful specimens I've ever laid eyes on and I bought it at Woolworths!!!  The colours are so me, I just adore them.

Just Because...

I have spent the whole day specifying bricks and stone so it's no surprise I was in desperate need of some beautiful imagery and soft colours to soothe my mind before bed.  Each of these images appeal to me for totally different reasons:

1.  A powder blue typewriter! (no further explanation required right?)

2. The 1950s vibe of this shot combined with the industrial cabinet is quirky and uncomplicated.

3. The wallpaper panel, the contemporary fireplace, the splashes of fuchsia, the incredible rug - I love it all!

4. Pink doors...... the perfect antidote to a world dominated by boring building materials!

Pining for Paper Lanterns

I nearly bought some gorgeous paper lanterns from a $2 shop on the weekend but I foolishly passed them by.... now all I can think about is how pretty they would look in my apartment!  When will I learn my lesson???  Here are some lovely images to demonstrate to myself the full extent of my shortsightedness!

Love a Hen

Today is my friend Dee's Hens Party and I'm so excited I can barely sit on my chair long enough to write this!  I am forever in awe of those fortunate people who manage to find their soul mate and Dee is certainly one of the lucky ones.  I am full to the brim with happiness for her - there literally is no room left for even an ounce more joy in my heart x

Mature Beauty

Every so often I am reminded that years of experience as a designer lead to truly refined interiors that reflect the maturity and grace of a carefully honed eye.  I recently came across the work of Cheryl Tague, an American interior designer whose subtle sense of style is both breathtakingly beautiful and timeless in a way that younger designers can never quite capture.  Her work is literally brimming with confidence - I aspire to decorate like this one day :)

Sleepy Head

I have been burning the candle at both ends this week and am feeling a little weary... today, all I wanted was to curl up in a lovely big bed with a beautiful quilt and a sea of soft pillows for company - I predict an early night :)

Look!  Someone laid out my bedding and slippers - how thoughtful!

I'm going to copy the mirror detail above the bedsides - I love it!

Soft greys are so calming...

When I was little, I was obsessed with the idea of an attic bedroom...

Wouldn't this make for the best slumber party ever!

Fabric Love

I have been waiting for the first day of Spring since the last day of Autumn and I'm so excited it has finally arrived!  In celebration of life being just that little bit more wonderful, here are some images of beautiful, fresh fabrics by Amy Butler Design - for me, they totally evoke the smell of freshly cut grass and the feel of the first warm breeze of Summer :)
