Home

My husband and I spent the weekend searching for our Home.  I don't mean just a house, but the place where we can raise our little boy, the place where we can escape the mundane and let our creativity roam free, the place where our hearts can find peace and our souls can unite.  Needless to say, we didn't find it.  You see, we have a small problem... we want a teeny, tiny piece of perfection and perfection doesn't like to be hunted.  We will find it - one day - we will find our little spot, our haven, our home.

The irony is, we really don't want much...

just a rocking chair by the window...

and bottles filled with flowers...

and a little nook to sit and be creative...

and room for some ducks...

and love... let there always be love.

Yummy Stuff

Some lovely images to brighten this beautiful sunny day...

Love everything... the arrangement of artwork, the trunk, the boots, the flagstones...

Today is so sunny it makes me wish for a hammock...

I would very much like to spend several hours sitting on this sofa drinking tea and reading magazines...

This image is for my friend Emma... we dream of a life where we can wear pretty gumboots while tending our vegie patch!

New Supplier Secret

At the recent Life Instyle trade fair I discovered the wonderful New Zealand company, Nelson & Co.  With such gorgeous product lines, beautiful colours and quirky styling, they were a real stand out for me.

I Wish I Were Crafty

Despite years spent attempting cross-stitch and crochet as a youngster, I'm afraid that I've turned out to be a total disappointment in the craft stakes.  I clearly remember being given a Knitting Nancy when I was 7 (surely the easiest way to 'create' known to mankind) and I still managed to stuff it up!  Ironically, I've collected an entire suitcase of craft stuff over the years that sits untouched, like a shrine to a baby I will never have... it's filled with items I don't even know how to use... a hot glue gun, knitting needles, bias binding (whatever the hell that is), I even have an impressive collection of sequins that sparkle scornfully every time I pop open the lid for a peek.

But I have other talents... I can cook scrambled eggs really, really well.  I can paint literally anything white in a nanosecond.  I can spot a vintage bargain at fifty paces.  I can cuddle for ridiculously long periods of time.  So, as the very crafty Gina over at Doe-C-Doe has cleverly spelled out, maybe that's enough!

A Home With Heart

This is the Barcelona home of Katherine Boonen and Jan Donhardt, the couple behind the art direction and styling agency, Lila & Tom.  What I love most about their home is that it feels real and lived in - something rare amongst the design set.

The painted door above is a gorgeous, whimsical touch.

The little table was found in the streets of Madrid... I love the string of fairy lights.

An old wooden cable spool makes a stunning coffee table.

The doorway to their son's bedroom sports a cardboard cut-out sherif.

A busy, busy bookshelf that obviously gets lots of use.

Bathroom Vanities

I have a weakness for beautiful bathroom cabinetry - a gorgeous vanity sets the tone for the whole space and should not only provide practical storage, but should be a total feature in itself.  Here are some examples that I just love...

Lots of drawers and a stunning marble top (I also love that the bath is in an entirely separate room)

I adore the way they have created the look of an in-built shelf... a clever delineation of space that provides an opportunity for styling (something often overlooked in bathrooms)

The combination of black and white is stunning - the mirror is spot on... a handsome addition that screams Ralph Lauren sophistication.

Interior Inspiration

This image captures the very reason I adore interior decorating...

Look at the way light and fabric has been used to create a magical fairyland of wonder.  At the heart of all design, should be the desire to turn our world into a more beautiful place.  The splendour of sleeping in such a divine space would fill up your soul and leave you feeling like one of God's own angels.

Always, always strive for beauty in everything you do.

Happy weekend everyone

T is for Turquoise

...the perfect antidote for a hot and sticky summers day!

It is sweltering in Sydney today... I have the fan blowing with a bowl of ice in front of it trying to cool the house down (without much success!).  Turquoise is such a beautiful, fresh colour, full of connotations and promises of sweet sea breezes... something tells me I could handle the heat better if I were sitting by a pool surrounded by palm trees, sipping a G&T!

My New Baby

I have a brand new blog.... for those remotely interested in baby stuff, head on over to Mama & The Monkey to enter in the GIVEAWAY!

Vintage Cutlery

My husband and I love to use vintage cutlery that has been passed down from our respective grandparents... something that nobody else in my family quite understands. A while ago my beautiful Mum decided to buy me an entire set of brand new brushed silver cutlery so "I wouldn't have to use all that old stuff anymore" (needless to say, the new set only gets wheeled out when Mum visits). There is nothing quite like a bone handled knife or a silver spoon with etched detailing... such small things bring a touch of beauty into our daily life.
